Tuesday 8 April 2025
The National Anti-Corruption Commission of Lebanon, represented by its President Judge Claude Karam and Commission Member Dr. Joe Maalouf, participated in the 2025 World Bank Global Forum, held on April 8–9 at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington, under the theme “International Partnerships to Combat Corruption.”
Concurrently with the forum, the delegation held several meetings with participating delegations to exchange views and experiences, agreeing to continue ongoing communication. The delegation also visited the International Monetary Fund headquarters and held an extensive meeting with several officials, during which they presented the Commission’s mandate, achievements, challenges, and the priorities it seeks to accomplish in the foreseeable future.
President Karam then continued meetings with officials from the U.S. Department of State and the Treasury Department, accompanied by Chargé d’Affaires at the Lebanese Embassy in Washington, Wael Hashim, and Secretary Rawy Hamdan. He also met with members of the Lebanese community at the embassy, presenting the Commission’s powers and accomplishments and engaging in a discussion that included questions and constructive feedback. At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees expressed their willingness to leverage their connections with U.S. officials to support the Commission in fulfilling its mandate effectively.
All meetings were marked by positive engagement and commitments to follow up, ensuring the necessary support for the Commission.
