The Commission organizes the first workshop for public prosecutors and investigative judges

Tuesday 7 October 2025

The National Anti-Corruption Commission organized a workshop for public prosecutors and investigative judges on the implementation of the new illicit enrichment law, on October 7, 2025, at the Sofitel Le Gabriel Hotel in Achrafieh – Beirut.

The workshop comes as part of the ongoing coordination between the National Anti-Corruption Commission, the High Judicial Council, and the Office of the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, and within the framework of the cooperation between the Commission and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the “Anti-Corruption for Trust in Lebanon” project, implemented with the support of the European Union and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the new illicit enrichment law by outlining key elements related to the practical application of its provisions. Through a series of sessions, it also examined real-life examples as well as theoretical and field cases, which enhanced the participating judges’ general understanding of the law’s practical framework and their ability to address the challenges it presents across various levels of practice.

Dr. Tillmann Hoppe, who brings extensive academic and professional expertise in the fields of law, judiciary, anti-corruption, and parliamentary work, delivered a comprehensive presentation drawing from his wide-ranging knowledge and experience. Dr. Hoppe holds a PhD in law from Humboldt University of Berlin, in addition to postgraduate studies at the Universities of Oxford, Chicago-Kent, and Lyon. He has also held prominent positions as a judge, legal advisor to the German government and parliament, and long-term consultant to the Council of Europe on anti-corruption projects.

The workshop concluded with an exchange of views among participants, who emphasized the importance of carrying on this type of initiatives that contribute to skill development and the enhancement of professional expertise in this field, expressing their gratitude to the Commission for organizing the event.
